How we hear

How sound waves become a listening experience

Every sound that reaches our ears is transferred to the brain in a complex, yet extremely fast, process. We do not consciously experience sound waves as sound until this information reaches our brain. Even when viewed in the simplest of terms, the process of transferring the acoustic stimulus is both sophisticated and ingenious. Let us follow a sound as it makes its way from your outer ear to your consciousness.
